General Submission Guidelines

The Trinity Washington University literary journal would like to welcome all forms of artistic expression; however, in an effort to appeal to a mass audience and maintain tasteful literary and artistic integrity, material that exhibits pornographic, hate, and/or threatening speech/material will not be accepted.

Please note that adult language and themes are welcome if they do not fall within the pornographic, hate, and/or threatening categories.

The Trinity Washington University literary journal also follows the Student Code of Conduct, which can be reviewed at http://www.trinitydc.edu/policies/code-of-conduct-for-students/.

All work submitted must be original.  Please refer to the Trinity Washington University Honor Code, posted at http://www.trinitydc.edu/policies/#honorcode.

All work submitted cannot have already been published or simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.

All work submitted for prose, poetry, and art must be emailed to therecord@trinitydc.edu.

Prose (Fiction and Non-Fiction) Submissions Guidelines

File type:  Word document (.doc)

Each submission should be accompanied by a 1-page cover letter including the following information:

    • Your name and a 3-sentence author biography
    • Display name (name you would like published with your work)
    • Email address
    • Mailing address
    • Phone number
    • Title(s) of work enclosed

Do not put your name on any pages other than the cover page.  This assures anonymity in the review process.  A number will be assigned to the cover sheet and the accompanying content.   

Submissions must be no longer than 2,500 words.  If the piece you want to submit is longer than this, consider sending an excerpt instead.

Submissions must be double-spaced and typed in 12-point Times New Roman font.

Please include your genre (Prose: Fiction or Prose: Nonfiction) in the subject line of the email.

Up to three pieces can be submitted at once.

If editing or revision is necessary for submissions that are prospects for publishing, the author will be contacted immediately.

Poetry Submissions Guidelines

No font size or style required.  BE CREATIVE!

Poetry is FREEDOM so no length required.  Once again, BE CREATIVE.

Any subject, style of poetry is welcome!

Edits will not be made to the submitted copy; however, if clarification or revision is needed selected authors will be contacted immediately.

Art Submissions Guidelines

File type:  JPEG within a Microsoft Word document

File size: 1650 pixels across 2550 pixels tall (the picture should be the size of a folded sheet of computer paper (width wise or smaller).

Each art submission should be accompanied by the following information:

    • Your name and a 3-sentence artist’s biography
    • Email address
    • Mailing address
    • Phone number
    • Title(s) of work
    • List Medium (photography, watercolor, oil, etc.)
    • 1-2 sentence description of work

Submissions Response Process

All submissions will be reviewed fairly based on the editorial objectives for the respective semester’s journal.

Any submission that does not follow area guidelines will not be considered.

Submissions will be routed to area editors as soon as they are received.

Emails will be sent  in response to all submissions.  Each submission will receive an email of receipt within 7-days.

Submissions Review Process:

Authors of submissions that are not selected will be notified via email.

Please note that not all work submitted for review will be published.  Authors and artists who are not published are still welcome to submit work for the next scheduled publication.

Authors of submissions that are selected will be notified via email and/or phone.

The Publisher, Editor, and Advisors reserve the right to request edits in order for publication.

A publishing agreement must be signed within 4 days of notice in order for the selected piece(s) to be used.
